What's New 5/29/17 Memorial Day

Gotta stay fresh in your minds so here's another email. Well right now we have some pretty good investigators. One is this guy who has 75 years. His name is Charidad! He has this massive tumor on his neck and other some ones on his arms and different  places. But hes a super sweet guy and is always asking us when were coming back and when we have church again. Hes a little bit slower but is always so happy. He lives on less than $100 a month.
Another guy we have right now is Luis! We met him in a gas station here. He actually gave us a self reference. Turns out he lived in New York for a while and went to our church for 2 years! Never was baptized. Hes just scared of making a covenant with God, but if you have enough knowledge to be scared of doing it... You'd better do it. Anyways we taught him the plan of salvation and he has a ton of great questions! All he has to do is pray and I know he will receive the testimony hes looking for. He has some huge challenges that need to be overcome first, but he is humble enough to do it. Hes such a cool guy.
These are just 2 of the amazing people were teaching right now. Anyways other than that  just been working here. another good week here in Tela.
Shout out to my cousins who got their mission calls recently Jessica to London and Jordan to Hawaii! You guys are awesome!

Wow! thats a lot of stuff that happened this week. thats awesome Brennen got offered a job just by his handshake, concrete is something i wanted to learn. but either way both are great options and he will learn a ton. hard work but good skills to know. yeah its true bro palmer has a lot of employees right now, but Ryans trying to get hired by one of the police departments so who knows. Thats crazy Dallin came home, but good that he doesnt have to deal with all the stress. congrats Jordan! ill do a shout out for them.
this week ive been pretty sick, i have something with my stomach. i wasnt able to eat a lot, i always feel pretty feel, basically my stomach wont process the food into my intestines if i dont take pepto bismal. But the nurse is one of the senior couple and im going to talk to her tomorrow to see what she thinks, and what i should do.its been kind of scary really. but other than that ive been doing not too bad! love you mom!

nice dad! sounds busy. for lessons if you want more participation, what i did is just split up the sections in the manual, 3 or 4 people have each section read it and discuss it, then we come together after a time and go through each section. we had a ton of participation when i did it like that. love you dad sounds like a lot of fun things coming up!

Week of Changes 5/22/17

Well this week has been very interesting! one of the elders in the other branch here did something dumb and got sent home. So the other elder from that branch has been with us in a trio! its been pretty fun. He has been called as a zone leader in a different zone and  leaves on wednesday. its been interesting.  me and my companion will be staying here for another transfer. we still have a lot to do and not enough time! one thing i miss is real hamburgers, they have an interpretation of a hamburger here but it is very far from a true hamburger. as i was thinking about my hamburger problem, i came to a conclusion that this applies to the gospel. but how? the hamburgers here, from a glimpse appear to be all they should, and that you imagine would be. but as you take the first bite, you realize several things..
1 theres not enough meat on it, and they flavor is not what you expect. often times in our lives we think we have reached perfection, only to find out the hard way that imperfection is an easier goal. but it need not be! through the gospel we all can reach our level of perfection, through Jesus Christ. This hamburger, in this life may not be able to fulfil its level of tasteness that it deserves, but someday yes. other sidenote, maybe it might just be us that needs to change our perspective. in the meanwhile, all we can do is add more ketchup.
2. well this one is more of an extension of the first problem, but here we go. its an insufficient bread ratio. there is twice the amount of bread than is necessary. in a sense, the bun is trying to make it appear more holy than it actually is. in our lives, often we say the words, but forget about the actual doing, which is more important than the words part. let us always remember to live the gospel and not just go through the motions, so that our bread level is something that the people can appreciate, and not just have to choke down.
3..yeah theres definitely more, but ill leave the rest of this sermon for a different day haha. sometimes its fun to make examples out of strange things.
anyways heres a few photos from this week, hope yall have a good week. things are going fast here.

sounds crazy mom! tell Jarom not to worry, just learn what to do if you see a bear. I was within 30 feet of one at Philmont well actually there was one that walked right outside my tent., just stay calm and dont scare it, they usually are more scared of us. but  that sounds like a lot of fun! love you mom, i honestly dont remember a lot of what happened this week but i sent my other email with the main news. pretty interesting week for sure!  heres a story though that no one knows. so we were in the other elders house after he left, i was looking through some papers when i hear a thud.  i thought, what they heck would be in here that would that sound? so then i looked, and i found a smartphone!! i started freaking out, but very quietly. no one is allowed to have that, and it was very well hidden. i thought about the options i had and concluded the following.1 i can take it, and just keep it under lock for when i get home. or 2 pretend i never saw it and put it back. or 3  call president and let him know. the spirit told me to first talk to Elder Carballo to figure out whose it was. so at this point no one knew that i had found it.  so i ask elder Carballo if I can talk to him for a minute . i bring him into a different room and tell him i just found something in your house, and im going to call president right now about it. do you have anything you shouldnt? he had no idea what i was talking about so i showed him the phone.   hes a good guy so i believed him when he said its not his.  then i called president, told him i found a smartphone. he was super sad to hear that the elder he just sent home also had a smartphone. he told me to just hold onto it until interviews and give it to him then. so that was interesting thing that happened this week! right now only 2 people know i have it, and im going to keep it that way so that other missionaries dont try to take it from me., theres a lot that would try to buy it off me i know. but yeah that gave me a huge rush when i found it! until interviews, it is hidden deep within my suitcase, where it will stay. i aint touching that thing ! love you mom have a good week!

Happy Mother's Day 5/15/17

Howdy y'all
hope everyone had a nice mothers day, it was nice to talk to the fam for a little.. we had a busy week this week, we put together  a movie night for a missionary activity. we showed meet the mormons and had popcorn and soda.  we didnt have a lot of support from the branch, but somehow we got it all put together. haha our budget was less than $30. it was a pretty good success, we didnt have as many people as we had hoped but the word will spread for the next one we do.  i spent 4 hours cooking popcorn kernels in a little camping pot that we have, actually the only pot we have. but my popcorn was a huge hit and my comp said that i have the gift of popcorn haha. not exactly a spiritual gift, but if my popcorn brings souls to christ ill make it with gusto. putting everything together and figuring out all the details took up a lot of our time this week but in the end it was worth it and we have a few new investigators.
other than that not to much has happened, weve just been trying to stay on top of all the work we have to do. but its been great!
Elder Gardner

thanks dad! it was great to see you guys and share the same jokes that we had before haha! yeah weve been trying to work with members more, but a new rule just came out that we cant do splits with priests anymore. so its just hard to get 2 people at the same time who live close enough together that its not a huge hassle. but yeah we are working on it. sounds like it was a nice mothers day. love you dad, thanks for all your support!

5/8/17 No general email just responses to us

Hey dad! sounds crazy, you pretty much owned the whole shop then haha. (14 loads of laundry with our washer broken for a month but then borrowed one from Hawkins)
not too much this week, some meetings and our normal visits. busy as always but not too much stands out. my comp doesnt let me talk a lot in the lessons which is kind of annoying. usually in a 40 minute lesson he only lets me talk for 2 or 3 minutes. pretty frustrating but im working on just jumping in when i can. love you dad miss you and talk to you soon! ill send mom the details, im actually with a different missionary right now because my comp wanted to go to the city for a zone activty, but to me its just losing 3 hours of our pday riding in a bus. so i stayed with another missionary close by. but yeah i think were planning on sunday at like 4 your time?  ill work on it. love you dad!
tell dad nice watch!!
ok so 5 oclock my time! i will count on that. idk what time my comp wants, but ill tell him im doing mine at 5 then.haha i dont even remember when i sent those since its been so long haha. but your package and letters arrived! thanks for that. it was awesome to get the letters from everyone, especially grandma and grandpa. i think thats the first letter ive gotten from him in many many  years. so that was awesome! thanks for everything. sounds like things are super crazy right now, i can barely keep track of whats going on. things are going good here. one lady told me how she had a dream that she was holding hands with me and walking on the beach. it was super awkward. but super funny after. yeah not too much this week. time sure has gone fast, already almost 1 third done here. but also gone pretty slow and i still have a long time ahead of me. love you mom!

Brennen got wisdom teeth out and we sent Josh the funny video
hahah that was so awesome haha. im gonna save it so i can wach it again later. he was way more entertaining than i was haha!

Baptism and Busy Week 5/1/17

Well its been another busy week here. I made a list of all the households that, ideally, we should meet with at least 1 a week, composing of uncontacted references, investigators, recent converts, and less active members. We have over 50! So much work that we have to do here, the hours go by so fast. It doesnt help that our area is so big and we send at least 2 hours a day just walking. Its been super hot lately, life is almost unbearable if you arent directly in front of a fan. Im just always kinda soaked in sweat, when we arrive at peoples houses they usually ask me if i just showered because of how much im dripping haha. but its fun and feels refreshing when theres a breeze! yeah i miss houses with ac.
On another note... this week our golden investigator Jose was baptized! He wanted me to baptize him. Its been so amazing to see his change and acceptance of the Gospel and how his whole life has turned around from where he once was, as a severe alcoholic, to where he is today. He works in a barber shop with a member, and the member was just crying the whole time and gave a powerful testimony of how hes been talking with Jose and inviting him to church for the past 3 years, and how happy he is to see this change in his life. Members are the most important part of missionary work!
so the other day i woke  up at 330 in the morning, just super hot and super sick. I felt like i was about to pass out- i couldn't see or hear, and was way overheated. i sat up in my bed and just lost all my strength. I couldn't even pick my head up for a few minutes. it was probably the scariest moment of my life. I asked my comp for a blessing, and after that my stomach hurt a little but i felt fine after that. I knew that the priesthood is real and that heavenly cares about us and loves us. Im so thankful  that i was able to receive a blessing. The Lord is watching out for us and loves us.

 Answers to Family Questions:
yes i can skype, im working on the details with my comp now, hopefully in a little i can tell you. im thinking maybe around 5 my time then, so that you have some time to get home and ready. my comp has a skype account so im just going to use his. we can use the branch presidents computer to do it. but im working it out! mothers day has come up very fast.
so for Brennen and his papers.. i would say go to missionary.lds.org first, just login using your email account. im pretty sure he can start by himself. yes i was an elder before, the stake president took  the group of kids that could go on a mission, taught them a little, and then we were ordained not too long after i think. idk exactly, that was a long time ago haha! um so for me bishop told the stake secretary that i wanted to meet with pres for my papers or whatever, then the secretary texted me and confirmed a time. you could ask bishop hyde about stating papers, he will know what to do even though hes not the bishop anymore and can atleast give you a starting point i think. yeah i dont remeber very good how everything worked, just that it did work in the end and here i am! thats awesome thats hes getting eready and starting them. and that he gets 2 mil mas!
with me and my comp, im pretty much nonconfrontal about things, i just kind of let them do their thing. i know i should say things to motivate and help them, but id rather just avoid a confrontation , about anything really. thats my difficulty so far. ive been pretty chill, just kind of taking things how they are and mainly trying to lead by example. love you mom! i do have some pics this week haha!

hey dad!
im glad you got the driveway done. definite a lot of things in life that we just get caught up in sometimes. balance is also something ive been thinking about. everything that we do in life is important, but we need to keep things balanced.  i hope things work out for dallin, that's interesting. you are right about spanish though, i remember what you said last week how i need to keep talking Spanish with my comp. i need to make that a point so i can continue progressing, its something im working on because it just is so much easier to say things in English haha. but im working on it! I baptized my golden investigator on saterday! he is so awesome dad and is truly converted. IM so happy for him. Ill send pics  and some other stuff in my other email..We had interviews with resident again, it was nice to talk with him for a while about some doubts and things ive been worrying about. love you dad!

Another Letter 4/24/17 Mom asks for pics

Well not much this week exciting, just a lot of work. the hours are just flying by here. Me and my comp have a goal of making this branch into a ward before we leave this area. it has 11 years as a branch and still seems far, even though in the database it has over 500 members. The main thing this branch needs is priesthood holders, and we have a long list of potentials and people to reactivate. Usually, of our daily planning we only make about half the visits, because we find people on the way that we arent expecting. Its amazing how many people have been put in our path this past week.
SO one of our investigators is a 60 something year old lady. Shes kind of crazy but is super funny. Shes an eternal investigator because she has some problems with her marriage paperwork and is actually married to some guy in Spain and lives with the person she wants to marry here. But were working on that. Anyways usually when we go to her house she goes on some rant about something from Revelations or just some other crazy thing. This week we passed by her house  Saturday night to make sure she could make it to church. We've never visited  her in the night before, so it was much to our surprise when we found another pastor there! She definitely gets all her crazy ideas from this guy. We listened for a while then just kind of interrupted him in a loving way and said that we came to help her with some marriage paperwork, and we only need some information from her since it was pretty late, then he can continue. it was pure inspiration and i dont have time to describe exactly what we said but before he was just going on and on about 100 different topics but after that he just stopped talking and i could tell that he seemed to have a lot of respect for us. his attitude towards us completely changed. SO yes under the guidance of the spirit I know anything can be done.  anyways hope everyone had a good week. enjoy the sun, here we get a nice sea breeze most of the time. in the shade and late afternoon it is perfect, i just need to buy a hammock.

hey dad, sound like a lot of work on the driveway! dallin sent me a pic and its looking great. im about half and half with thinking in spanish,  the members all say that i learned pretty fast and that they understand what im saying, and i understand most of what people say. some people are a lot harder to understand but i definitely have improved alot. yes time sure has gone by fast, i cant belive it really. love you dad and miss you!

New Comp Elder Sanchez, No pic 4/17/17

Howdy yall ,
its been a great busy week here. My new comp is Elder Sanchez! dont have a pic, he doesnt belive in taking pics during the week haha. But anyways hes from columbia but was raised in Utah! and is fluent in spanish and english. its fun to have an english comp. he has 1 year in the mission  and likes to work! something ive been waiting for in a comp. Anyways so last week we got our light bill. normally not a big deal, except that last month we never got it and they cut it after 2 months unpaid. my comp was freaking out and decided that we had to pay it right away. Being semana santa, on good friday, none of the buses were working, so we started walking to al centro in the hopes that a taxi would pass. we were almost halfway there when a taxi passed, but most of the roads were closed because of how much people were here on vacation so he pretty much drove us 2 blocks and then ripped us off. he dropped us off at an atm, but we needed to be at a banl to pay the bill. but, since it was good friday, of course all the banks and businesses were closed. we spent the next hour walking to the farther supermarket, where we could pay the light . it was a 3 hour adventure in the heat, but in the end we got it paid haha! so the beach here was completely filled with drunk people, just when we were walking around we saw so many drunk people just passed out on the side of the road. pretty sad but not much we can do.
we had a super solid vist with Jose this week,  we tuaght him the word of wisdom. he said he doesnt like coffe anyways, and that in his AA meetings they have a tradition of coffe and donuts but he can substitute it for water and say hes mormon. haha this guy is so cool, and proof  that everything is in the time of God. He used to be a severe alcholic but one night when he was drunk he said he spent the entire night pacing his house, praying  that god would change him so that his family doesnt have to suffer through him. now hes a leader in the alchoholics anonymous. i could go on and on about him but he understands the doctrine, accepts it, and applies it. hes super excited for his baptism on the 29th!!

so somthing ive been thinking about is our agency. It is the only thing in this world that is truly ours, yet we have it to follow Gods will for us. Agency isnt for us to choose what we want to do, but for us to choose what God wants us to do. As we do this we will recieve blessing and miracles that we never thought possible, this i testify of. I hope everyone was able to spend a few moments the past week to think of the Saviors sacrifice for us. He knows us perfectly, better than we know ourselves and only through Him can I become something in my life. Jesus Christ lives and loves and I will be forever grateful to Him for accomplishing the Atonement, making it that someday I have the hope to be perfect, as my Father in heaven is. love you guys, hope you enjoyed easter.

Mom's Poem and 4/10/17

Good week. We have a brand new senior couple that our working in our district! Its super cool to work with them. Elder Diaz was stake president and stake patriarch in his stake and knows a lot. They are kinda worried that they dont know how to be missionaries, but really all you need to serve a mission is described in D and C 4 so I reassured them that they will be fine. SO this week we had a drunk guy come up to me. He gave me a hug then started asking me about Hitler. We were like, well hitlers dead. then he said, no the guy with the hair. "trump?" yeah him, tell him hi, and that we are all america. there is no wall in america because we are all america." then he took my lession 1 pamphlet that i had, opened it to the page about prophets and said that these guys are the owners of america. haha it was pretty funny and suprising that he knew exactly where everything was. SO this week we have changes in the mission, my comp is leaving and im getting a new one. Sad to see him go, only been with him 6 weeks and it was a ton of fun with him, and a ton of crazy things that happened here with him. This week is Semana Santa, supposedly the hottest week of the year. there should be a ton of people here in Tela for the beach since all the kids dont have school, and lots of people dont work this week. so it should be fun. Its not to hot though, theres always a nice breeze goin even when the sun is hot, and it cools down quick in the evening. on sunday we had stake conference, no one showed up from our branch except like 3 people so we canceled the bus and rode in the half cab of a members truck. it was a fun 1 and a half hour ride. but afterward we went to a cool restaurant where we had a ton of food, probably the best food ive had in honduras haha. Side note, im learning a little garifono, the languange of the black people here. its super cool. Anyways till next week pues.

this picture is probably bad quality, no one in this country knows how to use a camera haha. Just a kid in the ward that wanted my comp to baptize him. and then the other is our leaders after conference. Super fun guys.

My poem on the Holy Ghost:
I love you all!

Still, Small, Quiet yet Divine Power
Comfort and Calm amidst the storms
Hope of Better yet to come
Whispering Love when I would feel anger or hurt
Gentle nudge in the right direction
Prompting to Serve
Forming Genuine Charity within me
Encouraging when in doubt or depressed
Burning to share testimony and experiences
Expanding Knowledge and Understanding
Teaching Forgiveness
Confirming Eternal Truths
Reassuring that I Am Enough
Gently Guiding, Sometimes Chiding
My True Friend
Nearest to my Savior
Giving a Glimpse of what I can Become
Purifying my Heart and Mind to align with Action
As I follow, there is Peace.
Am I listening?

Hey Mom, Elder Curtis was in the ccm with me and we are good pals. haha yeah i heard about his camera, he thinks it was one of the missionaries that took it. yeah i have some more with him, but not many. sound like fun with the fam and everything. as far as you callings go, maybe theres someone in cub scouts that only you are able to help.i cant remember which talk  it was that said something similar to this but everyone is where they are for a good reason mom! or maybe you can learn something from one of the scouts, i dont know. i think about this a lot since we have a lot of changes in the mission that i dont like, you know how i hate change haha. speaking of change my comp is leaving, im actually pretty sad about it. weve gotten super close and have had a lot of fun together. hes probably been the best friend ive ever had  and has been fun to work with. I figured out that he is like a mature, spanish edition of Adam Hargrave hahahahaha. he does a lot of similar things so its been so funny to watch him. love you mom, praying that dad gets better.

Thanks my boy!  That's exactly what I needed.  Change is difficult and sometimes being stuck is just as difficult but you are right...  We don't always know why we are needed just where the Lord puts us and sometimes it's for our own growth:)  I love you! Mom

Gen Conf! 4/3/17

Great week, conference was awesome. I was able to watch it in english with ac! Super great, every talk was very powerful. Our investigator Jose went to priesthood session and both sunday sessions. Hes making such great progress and is so awesome. watch the new video for easter, prince of peace, super powerful and also very awesome. We met lots of people this week that asked us to visit them, and met another older man named Enrique who is also super awesome. Hope you were able to enjoy conference and the words of the living prophets. If anyone wants to look at the mission blog, here is the link
http://hondurassanpedrosulaeastmission.blogspot.com Im not in it this month, we had our zone conference 2 weeks later than everyone else because some of the missionaries here had chicken pox.  but she updates it a lot and you might be able to see me from time to time.

Another Week, Another Convert 3/26/17

We had divisions again this week, I was with a buddy from the CCM , Elder Curtis! It was fun to work with him for a while. One of the members gave me a banana and I played with it the whole day and used it to make weird examples of things we were teaching haha. Its kinda fun to stretch your mind into making something work as an example. So the city government here has been protesting for a few weeks, because they haven't been paid in over 6 months! All the workers showed up every day and just sat outside the building and refused to work. We walked by after divisions and there was about 10 military police outside the building and all the workers were gone That's one way to end a protest. I guess they figured out a contract where they got paid for 2 months right away and a schedule for the other months. I would be mad too though if it took 6 months to get paid haha. We had a baptism, her mom didn't give permission for last Saturday but we were able to show her how much her daughter has changed in the past few months  so she said yes. ha so yesterday I met a lady that is 107 years old! She was drinking coffee and watching a television sermon haha. We teach Sunday school every week, and I gave a talk last week in church. This branch is pretty small, but there's still enough happening here.
Have a great week everyone
Love Elder Gardner

so the guy on the end in this picture is Hermano Stell. He used to be a preacher in a baptist church but was converted maybe 2 years ago. He teachers elders quorum every week and he still teaches like a baptist haha. Hes super funny though and helps us a lot with the work.
I took the other one in a cemetery at night, fun times

hey mom yes i like the updates, its fun to know whats going on. thats crazy with everything. what school did riley go to? other than evit.  thats crazy with the ward, sad that we lost the palmers, but they still live in the same place haha so its ok. idk what to say really, dont feel very good right now. kinda sad also lately. yes we get to watch conference this week. yes i miss you guys though and just being with the family.its probably best that im here right now though with all the crazy things that are going on in the family. love you mom . oh i washed my sheets and blankets this morning, handwashed haha. its kinda fun just takes a while. love you  momo

Another Week 3/20/17

Howdy yall
so this week was pretty good. yesterday we had one baptism for us and another for the branch. kind of sad the baptism for the branch wasn't ours because this kid is super smart and understands what hes learned. Anyways this week we had divisions with the other elders, I was in their area and man haha their area is terrible. Pretty much just contacting all day, to people that don't come to the door or they come and say noones home , then will just leave and start having a conversation with someone else. interesting. Anyways, so right now we have the greatest investigator! He is a big leader of the AA here. He came last Sunday to church and said how impressed he was and how our church has order and discipline, something that none of the other churches hes been to has. One of the branch presidency gave him a triple, a hymn book a Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley, and a study guide to D&C. We were teaching him and he said he already knows our church is true and that he will pray to know for sure. He accepted a baptism date and it is so awesome to have him. he is the kind of person who when you speak with him you just feel that he is a natural leader, and he has such a cool story of how he used to be an alcoholic but turned his life around and now spends most of his time helping others turn theirs. He is the type of golden investigator of the mission haha. Hes pretty much converted himself already and i wont be surprised if by our next visit hes read the whole BOM. Anyways super excited to be teaching him something that hes been looking for, as it says in D&C that people don't have the truth because they don't know where to find it. its  great to be out here.

6 Months Out! 3/13/17

Hey Everybody,
Today is officially 6 months. It's gone by fast and I'm blessed to be out here working in the vineyard of the Lord. This week not much happened, we had a zone meeting and divisions with the ZL which was pretty fun. I was in their area, and we left the house to our first appointment of the day. We pass this guy at a bus stop, and he comes up behind us, puts his arms around our shoulders, and starts asking some questions. I didn't know it at the time, but he has robbed the missionaries before.
So the first thing he asks is, the Lord walks with you guys right?
We said yeah, the Lord is with us, why?
Good, then I'm going to walk with you guys for a little.
Well actually, we aren't going on this street. We're going over there.( we actually were going on the street, but we were the only people on that street, so we had to change our plans to avoid being alone with him.)
No, you're here, on this street. let's go.
Nope, sorry we're going this way
Why are you scared? Why are you scared of me? The Lord is with you right?
(now this guy, with him you could feel something pretty evil. I was thinking, yah, the Lord is with us, but he's not with you right now, so we aren't going anywhere with you.)
I'm not scared, I'm just going a different way.
Fine. do you have any money so I can buy a soda? Will you buy me a soda?
Nope sorry, don't have anything, see you later.

So that's kinda how that conversation went with him. ha I actually was pretty scared, and i actually had kind of a lot of money but it turned out fine. he also asked me if I was new, and how he likes the new people here. So creepy haha. Elder Nielson, who I was with, gave him money the last he tried to haggle them so that why he skipped the other missionaries that passed a few minutes earlier and waited for us. but last time he also had a machete so that's a pretty good reason haha. I'm glad he's not in my area haha.
Other than that I've been trying to get to know my new area, it's pretty big and we spend a lot of time walking. Last Monday I had a pretty high fever, so I took some medicine and checked my temperature again more than an hour later and it had gone up to 101!  I asked  my comp for a blessing and after than I didn't sleep pretty much the whole night but my fever went down and the next morning I was fine. A testimony of the power of the priesthood, since the medicine didn't help me at all and I was worse off after I took it. It is awesome to be out here experiencing how the spirit works in other people's lives and also my own. love you all
Elder Gardner

Hey Dad
Sounds like a fun project going on. I wish I could be there to help, I miss doing stuff like that. I'm sure Joe Palmer would have let you use his tractor for a while  if you asked him. idk if it would be a help, just an idea haha. Mom sent a few pictures of it and its looks like its coming pretty good! things are pretty good here, O had interviews with Pres this week. mine was only 6 minutes long. that was kind of sad since it was an hour and a half bus ride to get there, but I guess that's a good thing if he doesn't have a lot to talk about with me. My companion is super nice, but he likes to argue about the dumbest things and he just keeps bringing it up later. kind of annoying but I can live with it. most of the time I just ignore it like I did with dallin haha. 6 months has gone by fast, it's weird really. My spanish is alright, some of the other guys who were about the same as me when we started together have progressed a lot more than me. I think it's because my trainer never talked to me in the streets or anything, pretty much the only time I talked was in the lessons. but I'm seeing lots of progress now and I just got to keep trying. ha last monday I ended the night with a 99 fever, I took some medicine and checked my temp more than an hour later and it was 101. that was kind of scary so i asked my comp for a blessing.  I didn't really sleep the whole night, but about 2 in the morning my fever was gone. so that was cool to see blessings work and I've been fine since.
love you dad wish I could help with the project!

Hi Mom
The new area is super big and pretty much  just walking all day. pretty much the same schedule as before but this week we had lots of meetings in progreso, which is an hour and a half bus ride away. and we have another this week. also my and my comp spent a little time sick, for me just headaches from the sun i think. yes there is a temple here, in Tegucigalpa but its pretty far so we don't get to go. ever. so pretty much I brought my temple bag and stuff just for it to take up room in my luggage haha. oh well. dont forget about my taxes, I should have a little from last year. I wrote dad a little about some things, I'm sure he shares it with you. love you mom, sounds crazy at home as always

New Area 3/6/17

Hey Everybody,
So I was transferred this week to Tela! Its pretty much a beach town and super relaxed here. The weather is awesome, even when the sun is hot we have a nice sea breeze blowing. So much better here than in San Pedro Sula. My new companion is Elder Baede. He lives here in Honduras, and his house is only about an hour area from here haha. He has dual residency though and was born in the US. He's a super nice guy and it's great to be working with him. This week I said goodbye to the people of my old area, and then pretty much have been sick since. I have some kind of flu or something and the enfermera tells me to do something different each time I call so it's been pretty fun . The pharmacias here  will sell you anything, it's funny since all the medicine says sold only under a prescription but you just walk in and say hey I need this many of this and they say ok here you go buddy. haha. So a funny story this week is we were with an investigator and I was getting to know them so I start by asking their names. An older guy left the room so I asked what I thought was his daughter, hey what's your dad's name? She looks at me and says, that's not my dad, that's my husband. hahahahah she is 19 and he is older than 50. so that was pretty weird, but I just thought I didn't understand what she was trying to say until I asked my companion after. Even crazier is they have a child,  I don't know what's up with some of the people here haha. ANother thing is one of the leaders of a gang here told us that if anyone robs us or anything, to let him know and he will kill them. haha ok, like you don't need to kill anyone but it's kinda reassuring to know that we are safe in this area and that they got our back haha. Anyways I hope you guys are all doing better than me haha, hopefully this week I can recover completely.

some pictures at the beach! we can hear the ocean from our house, so yeah if there's a tsunami or something ...dont know haha

Hey Mom
This area is super cool. The weather here is beautiful, way better than my old area. My new comp is super nice and helped me a lot this week while I was sick. I had a huge boil right over my eye, it was super painful and it was pretty hard to even sleep so I didn't get a lot done this past week. I took care of it and now it's a lot better haha sounds crazy with the fam as always, sending prayers your way.love you mom !

Hi Dad, things are pretty good here. I've been pretty sick but otherwise my new comp is super nice and said he's been praying for a comp like me after being with several of the worst in the mission. The weather here has been great this week, super nice sea breeze and some rain and clouds. It's an awesome area haha. Even though we can't really do a lot at the beach it's cool to have it here. love you dad,  sounds like a lot of work with the driveway, good luck. the hoa is pretty dumb times haha/ love you dad

Ya me voy! 2/27/17 On to area 2 Tela in Progresso Zone

 ya me voy!
Another week past and gone! I'm getting transferred to Tela in zona Progreso! Supposedly it's more of a tourist spot and mainly contacting, so it should be a fun transfer. A good learning opportunity anyways. I'm pretty sad to leave this area, were having so much progress here right now and lots of great members. Anyways Wednesday morning I leave here. Yeah should be good. Excited for a change of things though, supposedly pdays are a lot more fun there. And also its a little cooler of an area than here, we're coming up on the hottest part of the year when its 115 f and no one has ac. so yeah. I've been  kind of sick this week but I'm getting better now. Something cool that happened this week is we were contacting, and its kinda cool you just kinda know things about a street or a person. We were on a street and I knew that a Jehovahs witness lived there. I didn't know which house or anything, but sure enough the first house was a jw. Lots of other just small things that have happened this week.. its cool to be at the front line of miracles and changes in peoples lives.
have a good week and be safe everybody.

hi dad things are going pretty good. things are busy here. we have a baptism on saturday, but I wont be here for it. unless she wants me to baptize her, then I might be able to come. idk. I miss you dad and hope that things are going good. that's fun to have the family together, even though its for a sad reason. I'll be spending tonight and tomorrow just saying goodbyes to everyone in this area. pretty sad for this but excited to know a new area. love you dad and miss you

hi mom things are good. I'm pretty sad to leave here. I've been pretty tired lately even though I sleep good and everything. I'm going to the beach in Tela! should be fun for awhile, but also a little scared.  the bishop in our ward  makes custom ctr rings for pretty much all the missionaries and lots of other people. I ordered one of an anchor! the first one of an anchor hes done, so pretty cool. he also makes bags and cases and i bought one too, hes not done making yet but hopefully before I  leave. anyways miss you and love you. on my ring also the inside is stamped my name, but its spelled wrong. kind of sad about that but it's my fault for not checking exactly what he had written down before I said it was good. but it's only about 20 dollars for the ring and super cool to have something one of a kind, I'll probably buy one or 2 much later. the scripture on it is Ether 12.4 which talks about faith as an anchor. so it's super cool anyways. love you mom

Week 5.25 2/20/17

2/20/17 Week 5.25
This week was pretty good. we had the dad a nonmember  but his family is all members. anyways  before he's always been nice with us but avoided religion. My comp starts talking with him and he starts getting so mad about he thinks religion is a joke and his whole body was just completely shaking. it was crazy and it ended with him yelling at my comp some bad names and for us to never come back. he apologized to me, since we had always been on good terms before. kind of crazy but alright, mainly more sad for his family, who weren't at church on sunday and i dont think he will let them go for a while. some people just have very hard hearts and just need time to accept the gospel. we also blessed a home that had some kind of spirit in it, and some weird things happening at night. that was a cool experience. I cant remember what else happened, somthing cool i know but maybe next week. anyways its been a good week, maybe I'll have transfers next week but we will see.
Elder Gardner

Hey dad this week was good. working with les actives and people with non members in the family. we have 2 baptism for march so far but I might be transferred next week. either way I'm good, but I'd rather stay here in this area for a little longer. The members here are great  despite all the weird things that happen here.
i miss you and love you dad. Thats cool that Ben won,
(Ben won Science Fair for 5th grade class with Pencil Resistor that Wes helped with)
yes it is always better to talk things in person haha. I'm glad that turned out good for now anyways. this week passed fast. love you dad
hi mom, good week here. no the people here aren't that poor, they have enough to have hard hearts haha.  They don't have a lot but they have what they need. most people work just to pay for food for their families, living in houses made of pallets and wood with tin roofs.  hard to describe the money situation here,  its complex but there is poverty everywhere for sure. They live in poverty but don't know it.
(We went to an empanada restaurant with Hargraves that served fried plantains that I didn't like but Wes did)
haha that's funny about the plantains, we eat those everyday here and I love them. here they are called tajetas . usually with beans and rice and some kind of meat. normal banana fried is super good too. we eat lots of the banana in general, mainly plantain. here it's all just banana haha so kind of hard to know for sure what we are getting. but enough about banana!
for Jaroms phone try connecting it to a computer and just reading the memory that way if you havent figured it out yet.
ha I wish it would rain here, it's starting to get pretty hot and no one has ac here, only the barber shop, and the bishops and secretaries offices in the church have ac.  It's only supposed to get hotter and hotter though, I need to buy a temp somewhere so i know in fahrenheit what the temp is. in April it's supposed to get to 46 degrees celsius . yeah not looking forward to that haha.
well what's not to be grateful for? that saying that you don't know what you have, until you don't have it is true haha. everything is different here but it is what it is.
also I'm sending some letters, I've been trying to send them for a few weeks but the meetings and mail schedule have all been whack.

love you mom and miss you, hope the family is doing good and things will work out. I don't like being in the learning process of spanish, I wish I could just know it. Lots of people don't understand me due to bad grammar and pronunciation and it's a little frustrating to have 5 months here and not know it very good. the members always compare to other missionaries like oh he was talking fluent after just 1 month here.. like ok  but I'm not him, I'm me and so I just have to keep trying my best. so yeah thats one thing that's hard. anyways love you and miss you all

Doing Well at 5 months out 2/13/17

Well its been another week past and gone. We've made lots of good connections with people in the ward and are working on gaining trust. This week we had our zone conference with Presidemt Carlisle, about the new changes in our daily schedule and also about the new focus for the mission, teach repentance and baptize. A great meeting, followed up this morning by a meeting with our entire mission, and the mission of san pedro west, with Elder Christianson and Elder Alonzo. Close to 300 missionaries.  I guess last year this mission had a lot of problems and elder alonzo spent the whole time chewing them out and sent about 50 missionaries home. The story is he looked everyone in the eyes and either took their plaque off and put it in a sack, or shook their hand. But today it was a great meeting and a special experience to be able to shake their hands and receive personal instruction from them.
We lost most of our investigators, but its ok. Our job is only to invite, the decision is theirs. They need to gain a testimony, as my comp says they need to be converted, not convinced. We also get an hour to write now instead of 30 minutes so hopefully i can start sharing more stories and things with you guys. and also responding to emails hopefully. Anyways its going good here and I have progressed a lot in my spanish and in general. Also don't feel obligated to but if anyone wants to send me a hand letter that would be awesome, shout out to Bro Moyes for being the first of my mission a few weeks ago haha. I don't know if they will make it through the mail, some that my family sent 2 months ago never showed up. Honduran mail is sketchy. Today is my 5 month mark, it sure has gone fast, but great. Its awesome to be here with these people and I will be very sad when I leave this area.

Hey Mom sounds crazy. haha I had to teach elders quorum this week but it went pretty great, I just split everyone into groups and divided up the lesson, so for a  40 minute class I only had to talk for maybe 5 minutes haha. but the language is going a lot better now since I hit kind of a breakthrough with understanding. That is sad news for me about Brennen, just 6 months longer that I won't get to see him.
(Brennen got a scholarship to ASU and has to do at least 1 semester before they will defer it)
I miss you guys a lot but we have been busy here. My companion likes to talk and has made lots of connections with people who before didn't really have an interest. We've been working with menos activos and our recent converts, members who have nonmembers living in the home. a super cool week, we had a meeting today with elder Christianson and Elder Alonzo of the 70. We all got to shake their hands so that was awesome. My old comp was really good, we just had some bad relations and connections in the ward that made it hard for me I think. but we've fixed everything now. I miss you guys. ha just a reminder that you don't know what you have until it's gone. I miss all the things I used to do in my free time and with work and all. But it's ok, I will return in only 19 short months haha! love you and happy valentines day, I didn't even think about that until now. Time is weird in the mission. love you!

Hey Dad     It's going good here, glad to hear its pretty much the same at home. We get an hour to write now!! so I'll either finish this transfer for 2 weeks and then get changed, or have another transfer here. but my time in this area is almost up. Most of the missionaries are in La Lima, Progresso,  and San Pedro area basically, but there's a few zones farther out in the boonies. in Olanchito , Trujillo, and some others.
All the missionaries don't like my comp and feel sorry for me haha. He has some flaws but in the work itself he is a good worker so I can live with him for now. haha. We get along pretty good anyways. he and his family are lifelong members. he has 11 siblings, his parents split and had more kids. He supposedly was a pro soccer player but had an injury when he was deciding to serve a mission or to play.  I don't know what he tells is true, others have told me not to believe any of the stories he tells. I don't know what he wants to do for school, I don't understand the careers in spanish haha. but things are going good here. ha I wish I could work out here, we only have our small apartment. Tell Brennen he can have and use my creatine in the pantry if he wants it, just to research it before he starts using it so he can use it safely. 5 months has gone fast for sure dad. I think with my new comp I hit the breakthrough for understanding, and now I understand probably 80 percent of what people say. 70 or 80. love you and miss you pops.
